Joe Morello's "The Natural Approach To Technique" and "Around The Kit" are excellent video's, covering everything from hand technique, bass drum control, hand and foot coordination and Ostinato studies. Joe gives you an excellent idea on how to start using the left hand on the finger control technique. He demonstrates a lot of these on his drums as well as on a pad. Joe provides a chance to see some of his great musical ideas and techniques.

Joe Morello is one of the great technicians of our time. He always takes the time to help young drummers, and is a very humble man. In my younger years, Joe was playing a club in New Jersey every Sunday and every week a name Jazz star would play with his group. I was there every Sunday like clockwork and always learned something from him. On Joe's breaks, I would sit with him at the bar and talk technique with him. He was kind enough to give me ideas to help with my left hand finger action, and help me to develop better hand and foot coordination. He was a great inspiration for me to go home and try as hard I could to do these things.

Danny starts out with a great musical solo, sneaking in these great technical things that really holds your interest. He also does a duo with the great Joe Morello. This is a great video for technical development and gives you a lot of musical ideas. Danny is a great technician...and no wonder...he was Joe Morello's former student.

Jim Chapin's video can teach you accenting at fast tempos without burning out your hands. This video can really help your control and speed. Jim is known as one of the great teachers of our time.

Other Outstanding Videos

Another video I saw that's great for finger control technique is one with Murray Spivack giving Louie Bellson a lesson. Murray was Louie's teacher. In the middle of this video Louie shows you up close his finger control style. Louie is the Gentleman of Jazz and a great drummer.

Johnny Rabb has a video out that just knocks me out, called "The Free Hand Technique". Johnny can knock anybody out the way he controls this technique. He breaks it down for you so you can start to practice it. Johnny is one of the great modern players.
